Leisure and sporting activities flourish in the harbour area. The sea scouts are an active group and have a base on the sea wall. Whitstable Yacht Club, one of the oldest in the country, with an international reputation for dinghy racing, is located nearby. The Whitstable Angling Society Clubhouse is on the South Quay. Kite and wind-surf activities are all based on harbour land, along with the yacht chandlers, The Dinghy Store.
The Thames Sailing Barge Greta is moored in the harbour. Launched in 1892, she was one of the Dunkirk ‘Little Ships.’ She is the oldest working ship of all the Dunkirk little ships providing Thames Barge Sailing trips around the Thames Estuary.
